Small by Name, Big on Skill: Meet the Team Behind the Man

Hi, I’m Derrick, the quintessential kiwi bloke behind Northland’s Small Job Man. I’m a family man who loves being outdoors, working hard, and a home-brewed G&T on a Friday once the tools are away.

What started as a one-man handyman service has grown into something more - a carefully curated team of local trade experts. While we remain small at heart, I’ve built a trusted circle of handpicked specialists to ensure no job is too complex.

I coordinate the right experts for every task, providing the seamless experience of a full-scale trade team with the personal, friendly touch of a local family business. I have a background in project management, government sector procurement, and business management, which, combined with a raft of practical skills and a can-do attitude, means I don’t just ‘do’ the work - I ensure it’s done right, on time, and to a professional standard, giving you a single point of contact for even the most involved projects

Please be aware we are a small, family business. We endeavour to respond to enquiries as quickly as we can, however, sometimes there may be a delay, and it is not always possible (or safe) to answer the phone.

Jobs are scheduled back-to-back and we try to have one day a week in the office attending to admin. We currently have a lead time of around 2-3 weeks and do our best to accommodate urgent requests, but these can never be guaranteed. Hourly rates are dependent on the work required. More specialised or complex jobs, or work that may involve an element of risk (such as the removal of toxic or potentially poisonous plants, or working at height) will attract a higher hourly fee - all fees and terms & conditions are disclosed before commencing any work.
